Galad's Crossfit Journey
0

Well since you Bastards won't give me my own thread... ( I vowed I wouldn't start my own.. Just bad form..) laugh I'll start a thread documenting my Crossfit Journey... I'm 35 6ft and tipped the scales this morning at 319. Yeah.. I'm fat.. But in my defense I'm also strong as a Bull... My bench is 325 and my squat is right around 500. Seated Leg press is double that at 1000lbs. So yes.. I'm fat.. But I'm not a couch potato... I've been a starting Center/DT on my city league football team for the last 7 years. I've been a regular lifter since I was in High School... I've been as low as 250 in the last 5 years and as high as 330. I will never forget trying to play DT at 250... I got flatbacked for the first time in my life... Wasn't good...

So that brings me to the present... I have a 6 year old son, and my wife and I are expecting our second son at the end of this month (June 28). I want my boys to learn to be better men than me... I don't want them to follow my weight yoyo pattern... I want to model a healthy lifestyle to them. I'd love for them to get a chance to play football at the highest level possible.. And I believe that starts with me. So a couple weeks ago I did something I've not tried before.. I'm very good at radically altering my diet and getting crazy weigh changes... (thats how I got down to 250) But as most diets work, I found myself unable to sustain the radical changes that made that weight loss possible... I also found it hard to workout on those reduced calorie diets... So after lots of reading.... Researching..... And thinking.... My wife and I made a couple of slight dietary changes that we feel we can maintain for the rest of our lives. We started eating like Cavemen... Or Paleo as it's commonly called. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleolithic_diet I've been eating like this for a few weeks, and honestly.... It's easy as hell... Yeah.. I have my cravings, but for the most part it's very manageable... The method I follow allows for alcohol in moderation.. Which lets me feel like I can have a social life. This isn't a diet.. It's a lifestyle change.. And while that may seem like splitting hairs, it's actually very important to me..

When I started this process, the goal was to start Crossfit as well... If your not familiar, a simple youtoube search will.... Utterly confuse you... Crossfit is a bit controversial... There have been a lot injuries, and as a result there have been some pretty heated arguments about the philosophy... The lines have been drawn in the sand of the workout community and it's not pretty... But I've got a very solid background in both exercise and Physical Therapy that I feel gives me the tools to prevent injury. Some injury is always a risk, and since I play football regularly I obviously have accepted that. So... After a bit of procrastination.... I start today... I'll be doing two days a week for a while, with walk jogging on the off days to help keep me active and loose... My goals are lofty... I'm hoping to be able to spin this off into a serious hobby... There are Crossfit Games all over the country, and I'm hugely competitive... So obviously I want to go compete... I'm at the point in my life where I may consider quitting football before I can't be competitive anymore. I'm looking to drop 100lbs and get my body fat down around 12% or lower. This would be a first for me since HS, so It's a big challenge... I was a RB and LB in HS, and played right around 220lbs.. I wasn't really lean though... I put a ton of muscle on my freshmen year of College but I wasn't playing Football due to two ACL injuries in High School... So today I start a new journey... I thought about documenting it on FB... But I'd rather do it here..

I'll take some terrible pictures and post them soon... I'll do my best to continue with the pics as I go.. Should be fun.... It's gonna hurt... But I know I can count on you assholes to cheer me on. So here we go...

I am 6'3" 233 lbs. I want to lose 20 lbs but my problem is I never work out anymore. I need some motivation. I use to be a workout warrior but now I am a couch potato.

Keep at it Galad, my son does Crossfit and he swears by it....came home from overseas after 18 months and I didn't recognize him he had gotten so big. He's 6'5" and is solid muscle. Personally, I'm 6' 215 but I frequent the gym regularily, and I must admit, its hard to keep the women at bay ....lolwink
