Should the NFL just get rid of the Pro-Bowl?
0

Seems every year the fans vote for their favorite personalities (not best players) and they in turn decline the invitation.

The replacement players are selected by the Pro-Bowl event committee.

The press then no longer stipulates whether a player was voted in or selected as a replacement.

Even the Bears own Website currently falsely claims that Howard and Sitton were voted to the upcoming Pro-Bowl. They weren't, they are both replacements players. Same as last year when Long was a replacement RT.

I personally do not see the Pro-Bowl as some kind of  award nor accomplishment. As the voting is based on popularity and not skill or performance, like being designated an All-Pro. I hate when revisionist then later claim that player so and so was voted to X number of Pro-Bowls when they were just replacement players in 8 out of 10 Pro-Bowls.

Would it really disappoint anyone if they just did away with the actual "Game"!

I myself have not watched a Pro-Bowl for at least 10 years or longer. I cannot for the life of me remember when the last time was.

Yeah I'd be for getting rid of the game, then the only honors that would be talked about would be the all-pro team.  That said, the game will never go away because it is something that will bring the NFL a little bit more money and it is something guys can add things to their contract as far as incentives to make it... I wouldn't be surprised if players just stopped going to it as now it won't even be held in Hawaii any longer.

I am against getting rid of the Pro-Bowl, I would rather see them fix it.

I do agree that is is more a popularity event than anything at this point. Make it where a third vote is from fans, third from media, and a third from coaches. And limit the fans to one vote each! Not like it is now where you can vote as many times as you want. That is just stupid.

They are already doing the second part in bringing back the skills challenge. I will be interested in seeing how that turns out. But it is a good way for the players to participate without the bigger risk to actually playing a game. Like it has been said, watching the game as it stands is a joke, I can't remember the last time I watched it. But I would enjoy watching skill challenges.

Do like the NBA does during their all-star weekend.  I would be all for the QB skills competition, ala QB Club (still one of my favorite football games with that skills challenge included)

The last one I watched was the last one played "after" the SB.  Moving it to the week before was really the final nail in the coffin for me.  At least it used to be kinda that last excuse to just tune in for fun chits n grins before the long off season. In that format I could accept that the voting and all that meant nothing cause it was all just in fun and was the last weekend of football.

Now, with the SB pending, it just doesn't work for me.  I can't stir up any give a shit to watch with a real game still waiting to be played for some reason.

Butkus never wore an earring

I would like to see it count for something like MLB. I know the Superbowl is generally on a neutral site but make it count so guys want to win. Maybe give them an extra playoff team the next year. Also, when it was out here in AZ before the Superbowl, it was a cool event for kids. They got to meet and spend time with their heroes from around the league. The current format needs to go but they could make it interesting.

Never die easy....

How do you fix a game that has no meaning? The game itself has become a joke. There is no defense, no Blitzing, no tackling, nothing. Players are too afraid of a career ending injury happening. Which they should be. It would be a better game if they just played flag football in shorts and t-shirts.

The game itself has no reason for being. I guess they could make it so the winning Conference is then the Home team in the Superbowl. But, what does that really do for you? SB is played on neutral turf anyway.

I like PGT's idea about an extra playoff team. Interesting idea, hadn't thought of that. Extra team for the winning conference, one team less for the losing conference. But would the player's union approve of adding an extra game of meaning? May have to delete one preseason game if that were the case.

Shadow..Major League baseball is dropping that home field advantage in the next World Series. It just didn't make sense. Hopefully Goodell sees the same results.
