Ted Thompson, who has conducted the last 13 drafts and built a Super Bowl champion, will be replaced as general manager

One day after the Packers’ third consecutive loss finalized their first losing season and first non-playoff season since 2008, general manager Ted Thompson and defensive coordinator Dom Capers are out.

Whoever becomes the general manager, a priority will be coach Mike McCarthy, who will be entering his final season under contract.

As for the defense, the Packers fired Capers on Sunday night, following a 35-11 loss at Detroit. Defensive line coach Mike Trgovac and inside linebackers coach Scott McCurley have been dismissed, as well.

Mike McCarthy continues to make changes to his coaching staff after missing out on the postseason for the first time since the 2008 season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday that offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett will be reassigned to another role on the coaching staff and quarterback coach Alex Van Pelt will not return now that his contract has expired.

The Packers also have let go assistant linebackers coach Scott McCurley and defensive line coach Mike Trgovac.

Such a drastic coaching overhaul comes at a moment when the team currently has no official general manager in place, leaving McCarthy as the person in charge of football in Green Bay for the time being.

Looks like McCarthy has led a Palace revolt and is now the Little Emperor! Lets see if he is wearing any clothes!

re-Build 3.0

Still sceptical so I say 7-9 or 8-8 if they get lucky.

Thompson could spot talent, he just couldn't resign it when their rookie deals were up. Or he overpaid to keep it in house. I wonder if Devonte Adams signing recently had anything to due with his demise.

Some speculation I've read is the Packers would like to keep Thompson on as a talent scout.

Green Bay Packers making big changes, but are they the right ones?

Green Bay, Wisconsin is a town that likes things a certain way. And yet the Packers’ fan base — many of them actual shareholders in the team of which they own precious slivers — has demanded changes as the team’s Super Bowl window slowly has been closing.

“Fire Dom Capers!” has been a rallying cry for at least half a decade.

“Find a few GM!” has been nearly as loud in the echo chamber.

And what do you know? The fans got those wishes.

The Packers let go of Capers, their defensive coordinator since 2009, along with a few other defensive assistants. Ted Thompson, the team’s general manager for 13 years, was moved into a more specified role: senior advisor of football operations. It’s not a gold watch, per se, but it’s certainly not a promotion.

Will the changes make a tangible difference, however? That’s a very fair question — and one we don’t yet know the answer to until the replacements are named. The early word is that the new coordinator and GM could come from in-house candidates, which might give some the aroma of mere cosmetic alterations without actually shaking things up.

Young Packer fans are going to be so stunned when they realize that the end is near. They won't have a clue what it means to lose, or not be everyone's golden team.

Between this and the fact they are supposed to release Rodgers due to their own stupidity, I sense the Bears and Packers swapping luck. They will soon be suffering decades of pain while we ride our Golden Boy to the playoffs year after year.

Minnesota denied Green Bay’s request to interview their second-in-command.

https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2018/1/5/16854238/vikings-refused-packers-request-to-interview-assistant-gm-george-paton-per-report

That interview is only denied while the Vikings are still in the playoffs which makes sense.  There is also word that the Packers are looking at Fangio for the open DC position.  He reportedly will be available to interview next week unless the Bears are able to sign him.
