Matt Nagy just held his first post-practice press conference as #Bears head coach. It went 17 minutes and contained actual answers to questions.

The Bears opened a voluntary minicamp on Tuesday and with that came a new video showcasing some highlights from Halas Hall. So, in the spirit of being obsessed, I’m going to break down the video right here.

Coach Nagy is assuming the coaching pose at the four second mark.
OMG Mitchell Trubisky breaks the huddle!
At :12 we get a glimpse of o-line coach Harry Hiestand coaching up his men.
The fourteen second mark gives us wide out Kevin White crisply running a return route and making the catch.
Followed by Eddie Jackson showing off his hands.
Kyle Fuller makes a catch at the twenty six second mark. I’d like to see both of these Bear DBs get more than two interceptions in 2018.
The center snapping the ball at thirty-one seconds has some mammoth thighs.
And then Trubisky give a little read-option look.
Tarik Cohen shows up at thirty-seven seconds...
Adam Shaheen with a block at :43!
Then Cre’Von LeBlanc makes a catch and we get a glimpse on new tight end Trey Burton (#80).

Bears' Matt Nagy 'amazed' by Mitchell Trubisky's minicamp performance

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears coach Matt Nagy was effusive in his praise of second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who less than three weeks after receiving a brand-new offensive playbook had to apply whatever lessons he learned in the classroom to the field during Day 1 of voluntary veteran minicamp.

“I just got done talking to Mitch just a little bit ago, pulled him to the side and just told him really how amazed I was at how he got through this first day,” Nagy said on Tuesday. "He was impressive. I don’t want to put too much on him. But at the same time, he needs to understand that was pretty good, what just happened.

“Mitch is a very smart kid. He’s intelligent, very driven, motivated. A lot of the things we talk about as a team, he has. For him to be our quarterback and to have those traits, it’s hard to not smile.”

Nagy’s practice script calls for more plays to be installed as the week progresses, but for an on-field debut -- in Nagy’s offense -- the first-year head coach lauded Trubisky’s consistency.

“You’re going to have some poor reads here and there,” Nagy said. “There weren’t many. You’re going to have some poor throws here and there. There weren’t many. It’s Day 1. How do you improve to tomorrow? Because we are Day 1, things are going to add up a little bit. How do you handle the volume? We as coaches, how do you pull back to balance it? He’s not the only one, but for what he did today, I was very happy.”

Entering his second season as Chicago’s unquestioned starter, Trubisky’s teammates say they’ve noticed a big difference in the quarterback from just last year.

“[Trubisky] is a little bit more vibrant in the locker room,” Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks said. “His voice is a little bit more heard. Last year, not really knowing what the NFL is like, I think that this year he has a firm grasp on who he has to be for our team to be successful.”

Akiem Hicks: Bears aiming for top-five defense in 2018

Whereas offensive players are in the process of learning another new offensive scheme under the direction of another new playcaller (head coach Matt Nagy), Chicago’s defense is entering its fourth year with venerable coordinator Vic Fangio, whose return following the January dismissal of John Fox (14-34 in Chicago) might be the Bears’ biggest offseason coup to date.

“I look at some of those offensive guys and I feel bad for them because they got to go put a whole new system in,” Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks said. “Just being an older guy, you recall things a little bit faster because you’ve been through it now going on my third year (Hicks joined the Bears in 2016) in the system.

“[With Vic there’s] no B.S. He’s to the point. Either you did it or you didn’t. He’s not afraid to call you out. He’s not afraid to pull you to the side. It just depends on what’s needed of you during that week or that game. I really embrace him as our defensive coordinator and my defensive coordinator.”

Make no mistake: the Bears earned every bit of their 5-11 record last season, but bright spots did exist on defense.

Fangio’s unit had five games last year where they allowed one or fewer offensive touchdowns, and from Week 4-17, the

Bears defense surrendered only 17 offensive touchdowns; tied for the second-fewest in the league.

The Bears also tied for seventh in the NFL with 42 team sacks.

But that’s not enough for Hicks, who thinks the Bears have the coaching and personnel to field a truly elite defense in the fall.

“I would say I think our defense has a good foundation and just keep building on that and getting better,” Hicks said. “[We were a] top-10 [defense] last year, looking for top five [in 2018].”

“[It comes down to] us being more tailored to the personnel that we have, I think that's going to be a huge benefit. Guys like myself going into our third year in the defense, me, Danny [Trevathan] … other guys on the defense… [Leonard] Floyd; guys that you've seen [play well before] and now I think we're going to be just a little bit better.”

The fact that they finished top 10 last season given the situations the offense left them in and the injuries they sustained along the way............ I'm guzzling this beverage right now.

Sugar water with carcinogenic food coloring and artificial flavoring. What you refer to as Kool-Aid we call likker. Weird how that is....
